Recently, we released two new Tulsa Deco Wines: "Streamline CabFranc", a 2009 Clarksburg, Cabernet Franc; and "Bliss" our first dessert wine, a 2009 botrytis-affected Late Harvest Chardonnay. A revision of this page is underway to include these two new releases.
The historic Tulsa Fire Alarm Building was the inspiration for our first Tulsa Deco
label, Fire Alarm Red. Fire Alarm Red is a 2010 Petite Sirah produced from
California grapes. The label on the Fire Alarm Red features a portion of the intricate
frieze on the building, one of Tulsa's many art deco gems.
Fire Alarm Red presents intense aromas and flavors of jammy-roasted black cherries,
blackberries, black currants, licorice, cedar and black pepper that seduce you sip
after sip. This full-bodied Petite Sirah has tannins that are firm, yet resolved. The
Fire Alarm Red will set you on fire with the first sip, and by the last sip leave you
with only memories of a terrific taste experience.*
“Westhope”, the second wine of the Tula Deco series, is a 2009 Napa Valley, Cabernet
Sauvignon. The label features the Westhope residence designed by architect Frank
Lloyd Wright for Richard Lloyd Jones, founder of the Tulsa Tribune. The home is the
only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed sturucture in Tulsa. This wine won a Silver medal in the 2012 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competiion.
The Westhope Cabernet Sauvignon nose is lively with red and black cherries,
blackberries, juicy plums and red licorice. It is very clean and fruit driven leading
to the palate that expresses a medium body, medium acidity and a moderately
tannic kick to it with a hint of burnt licorice creeping through the wine. This is a
friendly Cabernet Sauvignon being very easy to drink.*
Our 2009 California Sauvignon Blanc honors the flamboyant "Warehouse Market",
the main supplier of Tulsa's groceries in 1929. Lively aromas of lemon peel, lime
zest, ruby red grapefruit and hints of baked apple and pear jump out of the glass
of "Warehouse Market". The palate is softer than the nose leads you to believe with
apple meets grapefruit flavors mixed with zesty lime nuances. It is round and
slightly creamy - a very easy to drink Sauvignon Blanc that is a real crowd pleaser.*
The fourth Tulsa Deco wine “Atlas Life”, is a 2010 Russian River Chardonnay. The label presents the Atlas Life Building, an iconic Downtown Tulsa landmark, easy recognizable by its memorable 5-story art deco sign. The building was recently renovated by SJS Hospitality of Tulsa and opened in June 2010, as a Courtyard by Marriot boutique hotel.
“This 2010 Russian River Valley Chard grabs your attention with pronounced flavors
of baked apple, pineapple, mango, ripe bosch pear and delivers the buttery, slightly
smoky kick we expect from well-made Chards. The wine is nicely- balanced and
has layers of complexity leading to a very long finish.”
The fifth wine in the Tulsa Deco Series is “Spotlight” Merlot
named after the Spotlight Theatre, the company that occupies the featured Riverside
Studio. Living up to its name, this 2010 Merlot has juicy red and black fruit flavors of
currants, cherries, and plums. It has an alluring nature with soft tannins and ripe
fruit making it super easy to drink. There is a hint of black pepper and a slight
leafy character sneaking into the flavor profile.
We hope you enjoy these wines presented in commemoration of Tulsa’s impressive
historic art deco collection.
